Baking 101: how do I alter a basic sugar cookie mix to make it "chocolate"?
I have very little time to bake cookies for Christmas so I bought basic sugar cookie mix to play around with. Can I simply add cocoa powder to make it chocolate? How much? It's a Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie mix in a pouch that makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
Phoebs and William are both correct. when you are adding coco powder you also need to be thinking about what taste you are going for. weather it is a milk chocolate taste or a dark chocolate taste. I prefer my chocolate more on the bitter side so when i make my sugar cakes and i want chocolate ones i just add a few Tab black cocoa and a touch more milk
also you may just want to just melt some chocolate and dip the finished cookies half way then lay them on parchment (wax paper will work ok) to cool. this will serve two purposes.
1) it will give the chocolate flavor you want
2) it will dress them up a bit
