Sometimes mine is cornflower blue, what’s your favorite color?
Cornflower Blues and Faded Flames
The morning rushes cold,
field dressed in
dew white, I shiver
inside, and out.
Embers in the stove
send molasses heat
to warm my face
breaking the fast
of frosted wistfulness.
Funny how I decide
which log goes in
next, was this a piece of a barn?
a fence? Now torn down,
each piece is a match to the
puzzling embers
not quite dampened,
but not roaring.
Curl lipped flames sneer,
gnawing thoughts
kindle worries.
I’m caught in
its snare.
The bray of an across the way
donkey breaks my spell
of the cornflower blue flames
sparking a hint,
that always is
sometimes a plank
we walk.
…I like this very, very much. Lingering too long in the sun can only burn in the end. Did I mention that I like this poem…a lot ?
