How do you think this cake would work?

I want to make a bunny cake for Easter. You have to cut a 9 in cake in half and put the two halves together to make the "body" You the cover it with toasted coconut to make a brown bunny. How do you think the following recipe would work for that? Hawaiian Cake Ingredients
CAKE 1 pt WHIPPING CREAM
1 pk CAKE MIX 1 cn CRUSHED PINEAPPLE; 20 oz.
1 cn MANDARIN ORANGES; 11 oz. 1 pk INSTANT FRENCH VANILLA
FILLING

Instructions for Hawaiian Cake
Make cake mix per directions on box, add drained oranges ( dont over mix) Pour into greased large pan or 3 - 9" round pans BAKE 325* 25 MIN. COOL FROSTING: Whip cream ( do not add sugar or vanilla) Fold in dry pudding mix and drained pineapple Frost cake and keep in fridge. Posted to MC-Recipe Digest
